Interior Walls
Wipe your hand over the wall to see if there is a visible chalky residue on your hand. If there is a chalky residue you should
apply our solvent-based bonding liquid and allow to dry overnight. Should the wall you need to repaint not require replastering
or doesn’t have a chalky residue just follow the cleaning instructions – no primers needed. If a previously painted wall needs to
be replastered, then a Paint Master Water Based Plaster Primer will be required.
INTERIOR WALLS
If your wall is painted with a water-based paint and you want to repaint with an oil based paint, or vice versa, you need to apply Paint Master Universal Undercoat.
INTERIOR WALLS
When changing from a dark colour to a light colour, the use of a primer can be beneficial as this will reduce the number of top coats that will need to be applied.
EXTERIOR WALLS
Wipe your hand over the wall to see if there is a visible chalky residue on your hand. If there is a chalky residue you should apply our solvent-based bonding liquid and allow to dry overnight. If a previously painted wall needs to be replastered, then a Paint Master Water Based Plaster Primer will be required. Also remember to waterproof your windowsills, parapets, tops of boundary walls and plaster detail with our Umbrella – membrane free waterproofing product. This will improve the lifetime of the paint and needs to be maintained every 2 years
METAL
Check whether the surface is rusted. If so, apply Paint Master Rust Converter to the rusted area. Sand down the rusted area, wash down with water and ensure that the surface is rust free and dry. Prime with our Paintmaster Metal Primer and overcoat with our enamel, roof or PVA products. Our experience found that a water-based topcoat lasts longer than a solvent-based topcoat. On palisades it works better to use the Metal primer and overcoat with our Roof Master, Sheen, or Low Sheen.
CEILINGS
Previously painted ceilings generally don’t need a primer unless there are damp marks visible. Prime the damp marks with our Universal Undercoat, leave to cure for 12 hours and then apply 2 coats of Paint Master Hi Cover. We also have an anti-fungus ceiling paint to illuminate fungus growth in small bathrooms and shower areas. Wash the fungus with a JIK and water solution, allow to dry, apply our Universal Undercoat. Wait 12 hours and overcoat with our anti fungus Super M product.
